Supervision & Consultation:
As an LPC-S, one of my jobs is to provide clinical supervision to LPC-Associates and Practicum Students. I work hand in hand with my supervises to ensure they are gaining adequate knowledge necessary to provide top-of-the-line services to their clients through personal knowledge and my guidance. Every LPC-A and student I supervise all have different goals. I enjoy having the ability to guide them towards the goals they want for themselves as current or future professionals and for the clients that seek their services. For both students and associates, these periods of their life are crucial for them to evolve as individuals and professionals while exploring their clinical interests and finding their therapeutic style.
I also provide consultation to other mental health professionals that wish to discuss cases and those who counsel adolescents and their families. Every week, my team and I meet and consult with one another in order to best serve our clients. Everyone on my team has something that makes them special, and being able to consult allows each and everyone to explore each other’s therapeutic approaches and perspectives.
Who I supervise:
LPC-Associates
These are individuals who have finished their Masters’s degree in a field of counseling or similar and have meet state standards to test for licensing. Once the National Counselor Exam has been taken and passed, the Associate title can officially be used as long as the therapist is under supervision for a total of 3,000 hours. If this is still difficult to understand, let me put it this way…doctors go through medical school and eventually get to their residency. During this time, they are official doctors but supervised by senior physicians, just like our LPC-Associates! These individuals are licensed therapists supervised by a senior therapist, me!
Practicum Students
Practicum students are exactly that, students ready to become an associate therapists! These individuals are finishing their Masters’s program and must complete clinical hours during a practicum or an internship. During this time, they are completing their required hours for their academic programs but also receiving weekly supervision with me. They also join in on our consultations every week to learn from our associates and higher level trained therapist.
